Hey guys! Its me again and I wanted to learn what the actors wore in shows, so I did some research for you guys. Enjoy! Costumes in theatre have been a very important because they show what character, gender, or social class you are representing. When in a tragic role on the stage the actor wore boots called cothurness which gave that actor higher respect than the other actors. Men in Greek was only allowed to act not women, even in a female role. To trick the audience in thinking that the male is a female the man wore a prosterneda which imitated breast. Men also wore a progastreta in front of the belly for female roles. In the earlier time of Greek theatre the costumes were mostly body paint and natural materials to represent birds or other creatures. Poets later in that time in Greek introduced new clothes like the "chiton" and the "hemuteon". "Chiton" was worn long and made out of linen or silk. "Hemateon" was made out of wool and was exterior clothing which was worn over the shoulders. The clothing in theatre have been decorated more than usually for the stage. In the 2nd century "kothornoi" (shoes with high heels) were introduced.
